If you have stained teeth, this could impact your confidence level and may even cause you to try and hide your smile. However, your Houston, TX, dentist helps remove these stains with professional teeth whitening. In today’s blog, we’re looking at our in-office and at-home teeth whitening options, and helping you decide which one is best for your smile!
The Causes of Your Discoloration
Why do our teeth become stained over time? Multiple factors could lead to discoloration. For example, when we consume sugary foods and drinks, this leaves behind particles for bacteria to consume, creating plaque buildup and making stains more visible. Smoking cigarettes and using tobacco products stains the teeth, too. To help keep your smile bright, cut back on sugary items, avoid tobacco products, and make sure to brush and floss daily. Be sure to attend dental cleanings too, as these visits remove plaque and tartar completely from your smile!
A Brighter Smile in Two Hours
Our in-office treatment could offer a brighter smile in as little as one to two hours, making this a great option for people who need results fast. We begin by placing a proetctive covering over your lips and gums, before applying the bleaching gel to the teeth. The gel is then activated with a bleaching light, which breaks up discoloration. We repeat the process as your teeth are brightened by several shades in a single sitting!
Custom-Made Trays and Gel
We also have a home-based option, which often addresses more severe discomfort and limits the risk of tooth sensitivity. The process starts with an initial office visit, in which we take impressions of your smile to create a set of plastic trays. We then send you home with these trays and a bleaching gel. The trays will be filled with gel and worn for about 30 to 45 minutes a day. To see optimal results, you should wear them daily for about a week to ten days, depending on the cause and extent of your discoloration. For some, teeth could be brightened by up to eight shades in that time! You then keep your trays and any remaining gel for touch-ups down the road as needed. If you have any questions about using trays and gel to brighten smiles, then contact our team today. We would love to help you obtain a stunning and shining smile, one that will make you feel proud and confident!
