Do you know what to expect from pediatric dentistry? Are you familiar with the variety of treatments we offer? Or, do you simply think of children’s dental care as something that includes compassion and a gentler approach but that is technically identical to adult care? The not-so-great news is that if you don’t know much about pediatric care, you may feel worried about your child’s comfort – and you may not feel confident about protecting your little one’s grin. This can lead to some serious stress. The exceptional news? We can set you straight on what to expect and how to safeguard your child’s oral health by helping you gain a sense of familiarity with the treatments we offer.
Happy Visits
We like to get your child started off on the right foot when we begin providing dental care. Rather than immediately scheduling a full exam and cleaning, we start with what we call a “happy visit.” We will give your child time to get to know the dental setting, will carefully take a look at his or her mouth, and will only proceed with a gentle cleaning if your little one is completely comfortable. We suggest you schedule this initial pediatric dentistry visit around the age of two.
Preventive Visits
After your child feels comfortable at our practice, we will begin providing preventive dental visits just like we do for Mom and Dad. In pediatric dentistry, the goal is to assist your child in establishing healthy habits, while protecting growing teeth and gums. Inhibiting issues like tooth decay promotes a healthy smile for many years. In addition, we offer the following:
- Fluoride Treatments: Fluoride is a mineral that keeps your child’s teeth strong, while combatting tooth decay.
- Dental Sealants: Sealants create a covering over back teeth chewing surfaces. This prevents trapped debris and bacteria, thereby inhibiting tooth decay.
